Day 1

Your group will arrive in Cancún and check into the hotel then participate in an introductory Joshua Expeditions biology program where you will discuss plans, purpose and direction. You will specifically be introduced to shark biology and their divine creation in this unique marine environment. The day will conclude with group devotions in preparation for the days ahead.

Day 2

Today the group will head out to the island of Holbox. This island is located approximately 85 nautical miles directly north of Cancún, so most of the day will involve the taking of ferries and shuttles to this remote area. In the evening you will have opportunity for a night snorkel off the beach to explore the coral reefs and nocturnal creatures, including the nurse sharks who inhabit the area. A devotional time will close the day.

Day 3

Following breakfast you will go through a Chondricthes educational program that illuminates shark biology and their ecological niche. Afterward, the group will head out by boat to swim with the inhabitants of the ocean throughout the afternoon. After dinner you will participate in a night wade and collections program before closing the day with a time of devotion.

If you travel during the months of June through August, you will have a chance to see the largest fish in the ocean — the whale sharks. During this time of year, whale sharks mate in this part of the world and are extremely docile, making them magnificent swim partners.

Day 4

Following breakfast, you will explore the island and its bird sanctuary where the group will discuss island botany and terrestrial organisms ranging from mangroves to the green heron. You will spend time discussing their impact on the marine environment before wrapping up your excursion with lunch on the island. Your group will return to Cancún in the afternoon.

Day 5

In the early morning, you will head to Xcaret, an Eco-Park on the Riviera Maya. Here, you will be able to see all kinds of exotic animals as you float down a lazy river through the natural habitat. This relaxing day will be the perfect way to wrap up your time in the Yucatán.

Day 6

Your group will travel to the airport in the morning to board the flight back to the States.
