Day 1

Your group will begin its adventure in Winter Haven, Florida, serving in ministry at the Redlands Christian Migrant Association center for children. You will have the opportunity to mentor children of migrant workers during an after-school program presented by the center. Your group will participate in such activities games, reading, and art projects with the children, as well as help the center plant vegetation and do light construction. Following this time of ministry your group will continue to Crystal River and check into your accommodations. The day will close with a time of orientation and group devotions.

Day 2

Following breakfast this morning your group will explore the Kings Bay by boat, looking for manatees and other aquatic wildlife and fauna. After some time on the boats you will have a chance for snorkeling at Three Sisters Spring, where you will learn about natural aquifer ecosystems and enjoy the cool water of this Florida spring. In the afternoon your group will explore the river by kayaks. You may see such wildlife as bald eagles, herons, kingfishers, and variety of other river inhabitants. During the evening you will participate in a night hike to search for the nocturnal creatures that live in the long leaf pine forests.

Day 3

On this final morning your group will tackle the Croom Hiking Trails of the Withlacoochee State Forest. The trails in this area are dry-to-damp, all-weather trails that wind through central Florida’s longleaf pine and scrub oak hills, live oak thickets and hardwood hammocks, past creek bottoms and cypress ponds. If the caves in the area are available you may also have a chance for spelunking to study a variety of cave-dwelling insects and vertebrates. (This activity is based on availability and weather conditions at the time of the trip.) These activities will conclude the day and your group will head home after this amazing trip to central Florida.
